Are you looking for something to do this weekend? Then explore one of the following museums where you will discover an array of interesting exhibits:
It was in 1839 when several gentlemen who called themselves the Alexandria Lyceum helped the Alexandria Library Company construct a grand hall to host lectures and scientific experiments. Over the years, it also served as a Civil War hospital ward, a private residence, and the Chamber of Commerce. Today, it’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it is where the city’s history museum calls home. Visitors enjoy stepping back in time, and exhibits include “North Gallery: From Prehistory to Antebellum Alexandria” and “South Gallery: From Civil War to the Modern Era.”
National Inventors Hall of Fame
The National Inventors Hall of Fame tells the story of the country’s rich history of invention, and the staff works hard to recognize those who have made the world a better place and to ensure that American ingenuity continues to thrive in the hands of future generations. There are more than 530 inductees, and exhibits include “Visionary Veterans” and “Gallery of Icons.”
Alexandria Archaeology Museum
At the Alexandria Archaeology Museum, visitors can interact with archaeologists and discover the city’s storied 13,000-year-old history through artifacts, exhibits, and fun, hands-on activities. Exhibits include “Archaeologists at Work: The Lee Street Site” and “Wanted: Young Heroes. A Civil War Drummer Boy.”
