Go Biking in Charles County

Biking is a great way to enjoy the natural beauty of Charles County Maryland. The area is home to many great trails that offer bikers an opportunity to get in a great workout while enjoying the great outdoors. Get your bike and some friends and head out to one of these trails for a ride today.

The Indian Head Rail Trail was once a railroad corridor that was abandoned. The Department of Interior’s Federal Lands to Parks Program gifted it to the Charles County Parks Department, and today it is a 13-mile bike trail that connects Indian Head to Route 301 in White Plains. It covers about half the distance of the county! Bikers who take on this trail will be treated to some interesting natural and historical sights, like the Navy’s Indian Head Powder Factory, natural wetlands, and farmland.

If you’d rather ride a loop, and then stop to enjoy some relaxing amenities, then head over to Friendship Farm Park. This park offers two trail loops totaling 4 miles, so bikers can customize the length of their ride. The trail follows along a few miles of waterfront and features nature observation decks and picnic facilities for after your ride.

Oak Ridge Park accommodates not only bikers but equestrians and hikers as well. Enjoy a variety of terrain, like creek crossings, bridges, flat, and hilly areas. The 7-mile trail network offers bikers of all levels a chance to challenge their fitness level, enjoy a leisurely ride, or give their bikes a rest and go for a hike or jog.
