An easy drive from The Apartments of St. Charles is a charming city known as Alexandria, Virginia. It’s known as one of America’s most dog-friendly cities, so if you’re looking for fun ways to spend time with your canine, here are some things to see and do:
Potomac Riverboat Company Canine Cruise – Hop aboard a riverboat and enjoy a scenic hour-long cruise of Alexandria’s seaport. Dogs ride free and advance tickets for this popular adventure are recommended.
Olde Towne School for Dogs – Carlos and Sandy Mejias founded Olde Towne School for Dogs in 1975. It’s located in Alexandria’s historic district and is a full-service seven thousand square foot facility dedicated to retail, grooming, and training. The store’s selection is diverse and products include food, treats, and squeaky toys.
All the President’s Pups Walking Tour – Offered on Saturdays through June, this interesting 1.5-mile walking tour is where guests and their dogs explore canine life at Mount Vernon from President Washington’s dogs to those who call the estate home today. Along the way, the guide will stop at five historic locations such as West Gate. It’s important to note that Mount Vernon is just outside of Alexandria.
Vola’s Dockside Grill and Hi-Tide Grill – Name after Vola Lawson, the first female city manager, Vola’s is a popular dining spot that welcomes friendly dogs on the patio. It offers a relaxed atmosphere, beautiful views, a hideaway bar, and delicious seafood meals. They include sailor style mussels, shrimp burgers, and crab cake sandwiches.
