When you make your home at the Apartments of St. Charles, you will find yourself surrounded by some of Maryland’s most impressive historic sites and natural wonders.
If you’re a history buff, you can visit the Thomas Stone National Historic Site. Located near the community of Port Tobacco, it is home to the estate of Thomas Stone, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. There you can tour the Habre de Venture, the beautiful colonial mansion this important figure of American History first called home in 1771. Take in the stunning Georgian architecture and view the historic possessions of this revolutionary founding father. Admission is free.
If you love the outdoors, visit Friendship Farm Park in nearby Nanjemoy, Maryland. You can access its 382 acres via 7 miles of trail that will take you through the park’s lovely wooded areas and along the magnificent Nanjemoy Creek. The Friendship Landing boat ramp allows visitors to sail out on the Potomac, “the Nation’s River.” The park is also home to a thriving Bald Eagle population, providing many opportunities for visitors to see this proud symbol of the United States take flight.
Gilbert Run Park in La Plata is perfect for the whole family. The kids will love the playgrounds and enjoy taking pedal boats across 60-acre Wheatley Lake. For the fishermen in the family, the freshwater lake is also home to largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish and trout.
